Hello, I’m Tyler and for as long as I have lived, food has ruled my life. Not in the literal sense that I require it to live, but in the sense that there is nothing that I would rather have more than food. It rises above socializing, music, and academics in my opinion. There is so much that food can do: it can define a people, unite others, and bring down entire populations. Food can bewilder and bemuse, make or break a moment in an instant, and it can invite you to new places and new people. But of all the capabilities that food has, it is the fact that it has unlimited potential. The empowering concept of such a simple, everyday thing came to me in a form that disgusts and deters most, sushi.
My first association with the Asian delicacy was taken with apprehension and hesitation; but after the first bite, I was hooked on it for life. I adored it, glorified it, and craved it for all of its being. This food craving, addiction even, made me reshape my way of life. I dropped the consumption of all other meats and became a pescetarian, with sushi as the staple of my diet. It was even at a local sushi bar that I met my best friend at. Now everywhere I go, whether it be in the next town over, county, and even state, I scour the local restaurants for a sushi bar. It was love at first bite and I will never regret the choice I made when I picked up that little cylinder or rice and raw fish. Food changed my life in unimaginable ways and showed me the power and opportunities that it possesses.
