Sunrise Cafe
When we all got stepped out of the van when we parked, I knew this trip was going to be worth it. Yellowsprings, this small hippie town located just 15 minutes outside of Springfield is one of my favorite places to be. The people there are always nice and laid back, the town is so modest, and the stores are exotic and phenomenal. We were headed to a small restaurant café called Sunrise Café. The place was a hole in the wall, filled with displays of old teacups, local artwork, and wine bottles which lined the bar counter. The five of were seated right away, luckily Professor Reno booked reservations, at a booth that looked outside into the street with a great view of the local shops and buildings.
The waiter brought out our menus and they listed off all-organic, locally bought dishes. They varied from breakfast meals to lunch entrees, with a few brunch options as well. The waiter came back shortly after and we ordered our beverages; I ordered a cup of English breakfast tea. Being a pescetarian I was worried that my options would be severely limited, but that was not the case. The menu offered a plethora of vegan and vegetarian meals. My love for omelets sent me straight to the breakfast section. I juggled a few choices and chose the portabella mushroom and Swiss cheese omelet.
After our food arrived, we dove right in. The first bite was amazing, the smoothness of the mushrooms and sharpness of the cheese seemed to melt in my mouth. I quickly devoured the rest of it. The home fries that accompanied it were good, but a little dry and somewhat disappointing. The meal ended and we paid our bills shortly after everyone finished. I would recommend stopping by the Sunrise Café if you are ever in Yellowsprings, you’ll enjoy it, take my word for it.
